How to dress: Runway show dresser

Hey guys! i've decided to make a set of how to posts on dressing for certain styles or functions! since i've spent a huge chunk of last week dressing for the David jones bridal expo and Girls night out i've decided to start with how to dress like a runway show dresser!

i had a lot of trouble thinking of what to wear for my first ever runway show (and i ended up looking stupid!) so i've definitely stepped back and taken more of a practical approach this time around.

DO's:

  • Wear all black. Most companies have you wear all black when working behind the scenes to separate you apart from the many people who work behind the scenes.
  • Wear comfortable clothes. Pick clothes you've already trialled in real life, things that are easy to move in  and that don't restrict movement.
  • Tie your hair up. Obviously this is optional but always carry hair ties and bobby pins just incase. Runway shows have super quick changes which don't leave you with much time to be fixing yourself.
DON'T:
  • Wear long necklaces, dangly bracelets or rings! Especially when working with delicate fabrics like wedding gowns (You also have no idea what clothes you're dealing with until you arrive!) You can get in loads of trouble if you rip a garment. Keep the accessories to a minimum.
  • Wear short/tight skirts. You will spend 80% of your time crouching on the floor so don't wear anything that will restrict your movement or make you feel uncomfortable.
  • Wear heels! you spend the whole time standing so opt for flats. it also helps when they ask you to run places to quickly do something (*cough* going to level 7 to find a phantom pair of heels :P)
Just remember your common sense, you can still dress up and look super rockin' just keep it simple and comfy! I'd also suggest bringing your own snacks and water! Shows always run late and have you waiting about. Break times are pretty uncertain so be prepared.

Here are the outfits I wore for the bridal expo!

Day 1: i wore a black tank, leather look tights and boots and styled it with a chain and a twisted up-do. the back stage photographer asked to take a photo with me in this outfit too ^_^ i was so awkward!!! haha

Day 2: i wore chiffon dress, creepers and styled it with my daisy socks, floral crown and twist up-do.
i was inspired by all the pretty table decorations and wedding dresses!

here's what my adorable friends wore on day 2!

And lastly day 3! i wore a racer back top, oil slick leggings and studded boots, i styled it with my fresh beanie and simple jewellery. This was my favourite outfit. I felt super cool (and i'm so in love with these tights!)

So tell me what you think! and whether or not you found this helpful!

David jones/ Vogue bridal expo!

hey guys!

i had a great weekend this past week dressing for the David jones bridal expo! it was a great event they organised in conjunction with Vogue Australia! it included loads of awesome stalls including Napoleon make up, Kashaya and co cakes and shoes of prey as well as great interior decorator ideas and a fabulous fashion show. the show included wedding gowns, mens suits, page boy and flower girl costumes, lingerie and bridesmaids gowns. i was holding dresses that cost up to $22,000!!! from some amazing designers such as Rachel Gilbert, Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and Colette Dinnigan.

i took loads of backstage photos (and borrowed a few from friends!) so check out the beauty!

Beautiful Cakes by Kashaya and co!

the awesome shoes from Shoes of prey! where you can customise your perfect shoe!

i'm OBSESSED with this ribbon detail!

 hey sexy ladies ;)
me hard at work ;)
I had loads of fun at this event along with the other girls from The Fashion institute. This was my first ever bridal related fashion event and i learnt a lot about how to quickly do up fiddly buttons! it was really great being able to repeat the event (i did 3 days of the same show, there were 5 shows all together) i got to talk to the models and really get to know all the different people who helped out on the event. i'd highly recommend doing as many days as you can for these events! they're great for networking and making friends (i'm now also helping with David Jones's girls night out!)

Working this event was also a learning experience for me on how to dress on these events. so expect an outfit post on the do's and don'ts of dressing as a dresser!
